After almost three years since the company was founded back in 2018, RIC3D decided it was necessary to set out on a path of social responsibility and ethical commitment, which would lead it to play an important role not only in the high-tech sector, but also in the “civic” and environmental field. In this regard, the perseverance and commitment that distinguish it have borne fruit: today RIC3D has become a Benefit Corporation.
As a Benefit Corporation, RIC3D has evolved its definition of a “company”, incorporating in its business activities – in addition to profit objectives – a range of common benefit goals, with the aim of meeting and complying with objective parameters that assess its positive impact on the society and on the planet.
From this perspective, the company claim (” Technologies applied in the quotidian”) is perfectly in line with an ad hoc technological approach, which can be applied in different fields of application. The RIC3D benefit company intends, in fact, to extend its activities by means of eco-sustainability and social impact models, in order to guarantee continuous improvement in the well-being of citizens, with a characterizing imprint of eco-sustainability, eco-circulation and reduction of the carbon footprint.
However, as of today, RIC3D’s heterogeneous and multicultural team has made its multidisciplinary knowledge – Artificial Intelligence, 3D printing, innovative materials, eco-circulation models, IoT sensors – available to partners and investors for the joint development of R&D projects in well-defined sectors.
In particular, through the MED3D project, the company has brought technology closer to the medical sector, providing aspiring doctors and professional surgeons with three-dimensional model processing software that, integrated with advanced 3D modelling, 3D printing and Virtual Reality technologies, can function as a surgical simulator for healthcare professionals. But there’ s more. A further element of uniqueness and sustainability of the MED3D project is to have an eco-circular approach in the use of original eco-compatible materials covered by patent application: in fact, with reference to 3D printing operations, R&D studies have led to the development of technical solutions and the use of increasingly innovative materials composed of mixtures of organic and inorganic materials derived from waste from the agro-food chain.
Furthermore, through the TRATOO project, RIC3D has combined AR and Mixed Reality digital technologies with the Sustainable Tourism sector, which has become an increasingly central focus following the massive change brought by the climate and environmental crisis we are experiencing. According to the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), Sustainable Tourism can be defined as that type of tourism “which takes full account of current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, responding to the needs of visitors, industry, the environment and host communities”. In this regard, RIC3D, in line with the company’s mission, has implemented an App designed to offer tourists guided walk itineraries within cities of art, with the possibility of making direct and quick access to the architectural, artistic and cultural heritage that the specific city has to offer.
To date, therefore, RIC3D has promoted R&D projects for the creation of products and services in the Med-Tech sphere (MED3D project) and Sustainable Tourism (TRATOO project); but the high level of transversality of our paradigm, combined with the multidisciplinary knowledge of our team, opens up scenarios for future R&D projects in other branches of innovation as well – invariably with an emphasis on a positive impact on people’s daily lives and on the environment.
